The right disco song can save lives!
I attended law school during the hayday of disco. Little did I know that one of my favorite tunes, Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees, could actually help people to really “stay alive.”
According to AP, ‘Stayin’ Alive’ has near-perfect rhythm to help jump-start heart, CNN.com, Oct. 17, 2008, a study from the University of Illinois medical school revealed that people doing CPR while listening to Stayin’ Alive maintained close to the correct number of chest compressions.
The American Heart Association recommends 100 compressions per minute and Stayin’ Alive has 103 beats per minute, an almost perfect match. Most people who do CPR have difficulty maintaining the proper rhythm.
A song by Queen may be just effective but it’s title, Another One Bites the Dust, just doesn’t seem right under the circumstances.
