The dead really can have their votes counted!
It appears that in at least one state, a dead person’s vote can count legally! And, I will assume the same is true in many states.
Here is how to accomplish this “amazing” feat. First, the citizen votes before election day either through early voting or absentee voting. Second, the citizen dies before election day. And, guess what, there is no way to trace the ballot to undo the vote so the vote of the dead person stands.
This issue came to light after the recent passing of Barack Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, and inquires regarding whether her absentee vote would count. See Eli Sanders, Will Madelyn Dunham’s Vote Count?, The Stranger (Seattle), Nov. 3, 2008.
