Heath Ledger wins Oscar for Best Supporting Actor

JokerEarlier on this blog, I discussed the potential ramifications if Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for his performance as “The Joker” in the Batman movie, The Dark Knight.

Last night (February 22, 2009), Heath won the award for Best Supporting Actor.  As anticipated, his mother, father, and sister accepted the Oscar on Heath’s behalf.  The Oscar will then belong to his daughter, Matilda, assuming she signs the Academy’s agreement, when she reaches age 18, not to sell the statuette without first giving the Academy the opportunity to purchase it for $1.00.

See Reed Johnson, Ledger’s dark Joker is a story in itself, Chicago Tribune, Feb. 23, 2009.
