Another dead man’s sperm is harvested

Earlier on this blog, I reported that a Texas probate judge authorized dead man’s mother to harvest his sperm. 

In another case, a New York judge allowed a dead man’s girl friend to harvest his sperm.  Here are some of the details from Caitlin Millat and Benjamin Peim, On day she buries her dead lover, she’ll learn if his sperm can make a baby, NY Daily News, April 19, 2009:

• Johnny Quintana died on April 15, 2009.
• His girlfriend and his baby’s mother, Gisela Marrero, obtained court permission from Supreme Court Justice Howard Sherman to harvest semen from his corpse.
• Gisela claimed that Johnny and his brother (Alex) had discussed preserving sperm to allow post-death reproduction and that Johnny had told her he wanted another baby.

• It is uncertain whether the sperm will be viable as the court order was issued only four hours before the 36 hour from time of death viability period was about to expire.
