Maine House of Representatives approves same-sex marriage legislation

Maine Earlier on this blog, I reported that on April 30, 2009, the Maine Senate voted 21 to 14 in favor of a bill that would authorize same-sex marriage.

On May 5, 2009, the Maine House of Representatives also approved this bill.

It is unknown whether Governor John Baldacci will sign the legislation.  In the past, he has opposed same-sex marriage but there are reports that he may reconsider his position.  It appears that if Gov. Baldacci vetoes the legislation, there would be insufficient votes to overturn his veto.
