Housekeeper Testifies in Trial of Astor’s Son
Mrs. Astor’s housekeeper of 40 years recently testified about paintings taken by Anthony Marshall while Astor was still living. The housekeeper testified that she witnessed Marshall remove a painting and witnessed Astor and Marshall discussing another painting. She also offered testimony suggesting that Marshall had permission to sell the painting behind the biggest larceny charge, a Childe Hassam painting that sold for $10 million and earned Marshall a $2 million commission.
