D.C. Upholds Same-Sex Marriage Law

Gay marriage

On July 15, 2010, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals shot down a suit that challenged the Jury and Marriage Amendment Act of 2009. This Act requires the District to recognize marriages between same-sex couples entered into in other jurisdictions. To see the 53-page majority opinion, click here.

After passing the Act, the D.C. Council “adopted the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act of 2009, which became law earlier this year. The law expanded the definition of marriage in the city to include same-sex couples.”
