JPMorgan Chase Declares a Living Customer as Dead
Wrenella Pierre, a JPMorgan Chase customer (perhaps former customer), attempted to modify her home mortgage to no avail. She soon discovered that her attempt to refinance her home was hindered by the fact that Chase had reported Pierre as dead to several credit agencies.
Pierre’s family received a letter of condolence from Chase in November of 2010. The letter assured the family that a bank employee would contact them within 30 to 60 days to discuss Pierre’s outstanding balances. Pierre talked with bank employees, in person, to ensure them that she was still alive. A month later, however, Pierre was still reported as dead with many credit agencies.
Pierre claims Chase’s actions ruined her credit rating and caused an undue burden on her attempt to refinance her home. Chase declined to discuss Pierre’s situation in detail, but claimed the bank was looking into the matter.
