Patient Receives First Lab-Made Organ

Windpipe Surgeons at a Hospital in Stockholm implanted the first ever lab-made organ into a a cancer patient on June 9. The patient required a new trachea as a result of his tracheal cancer, and his doctors suggested growing the required synthetic windpipe instead of waiting for a donated organ. Doctors used the thirty-six year old patent’s own stem cells to grow the artificial trachea.

The patent’s body has accepted the new windpipe, and doctors expect he will be released from the hospital today.
