Jackson’s Estate Sues Lloyd’s of London for $17.5 Policy Amount
Lloyd’s of London issued a $17.5 million policy to cover any losses for Michael Jackson’s 2009 “This is It” Tour. Jackson’s estate has now sued Lloyd’s for payment of the $17.5 million. Lloyd’s has asked an L.A. court to declare the policy null and void because Jackson lied about his drug addiction and medical history. Lloyd’s claims the policy does not cover Jackson’s death, which was officially listed as a homicide, because the terms of policy state that coverage only extends to losses resulting from accidents. Jackson’s estate recently a filed a cross-complaint stating that Jackson’s death qualifies as an accident because Jackson had no intention of being killed. The estate is now seeking punitive damages along with the $17.5 million policy amount.
