Interactive Online Ethics Seminar

CLEACTEC and ALI-ABA cosponsored a 2.0-hour CLE on November 9 entitled Playing by the Ethical Rules: How “Engaging” Can Estate Planners Be?. The interactive seminar is now available online. A description of the program is below:

The ethical rules can pose challenges for estate planners, particularly in the process of engaging to represent clients. Failing to understand and follow these rules at the start of the attorney-client relationship can have devastating results later on in the representation. This thought-provoking and practical ethics program will explore the complexities of these rules for estate planning attorneys, and help you steer clear of potential hazards when being engaged by new or current clients.

Using real-world examples, the expert panel will review the ethical issues that estate planners should consider when being engaged to provide estate planning services. Areas to be discussed include:

  • Representing an Individual
  • Jointly Representing a Married Couple
  • Jointly Representing a Couple Joined by a Civil Union
  • Representing Different Generations of Family Members in Different Transactions
  • Representing Different Generations of Family Members in the Same Transaction
  • Representing Business Partners in their Estate Planning
  • Representing a Client Who Is Becoming Incapacitated
  • Representing a Fiduciary

This interactive seminar offers you the opportunity to ask questions of the faculty by email before and during the program. The discussion will be based on ACTEC’s Commentaries on the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, Fourth Edition, accessible free of charge at www.actec.org/public/CommentariesPublic.asp.
