Darla Lexington and John O’Quinn’s Estate Reach Settlement
John O’Quinn, a prominent Houston plaintiffs lawyer died in an automobile accident in October 2009. His longtime companion, Darla Lexington and his estate and foundation settled a dispute over assets from his estate.
The probate court trial was set to begin in a few days and expected to last for five weeks. Lexington wanted the court to order the executor of O’Quinn’s estate to return property she claims she received as gifts in her common-law marriage to O’Quinn. The estate and the foundation claim that she is not entitled to the gifts because O’Quinn specified in his will that he was not married and he left his estate to the foundation. The attorneys involved in the settlement will not reveal the details, but a partner for the firm that is representing Lexington says that she will be provided for with the terms of the settlement.
