Bob Wieland Overcomes Struggles
On June 14, 1969, Vietnam war veteran Bob Wieland’s legs were blown off. He was placed in a body bag, and pronounced dead on arrival. He had one last breath that led to someone unzipping bag so Bob could have a second chance. On September 8, 1982, he told everyone he was going to walk across America on his arms. It took him 4,916,000 steps to get there. After his journey, he formed a group called beating the odds and he is working to get the program into all school districts in America. Bob believes young people need to hear real stories of people who have overcome struggles. Bob says, “one great example is ten times more powerful than great advice.”
