Janaka Basnayake, a twenty-four year old Sri Lanka man, buried himself over the weekend with wood and soil in the hopes of setting the record for the longest time spent buried alive. Unfortunately, Basnayake died during his attempt. Basnayake was buried Saturday at around 9:30 a.m. and was brought back to the surface, unconscious, at 4:00 p.m. the same day. He was pronounce dead on arrival to nearby hospital.
