Savernake Estate Financially Troubled
The Savernake Estate is apparently suffering from financial difficulties. The Estate belonged to the Earl of Cardigan, and there is an ongoing dispute over who owns 40 paintings of the Earl of Cardigan’s ancestors. Trustees want to sell the paintings to resolve financial problems within the estate, but David Brudnell-Bruce, the earl, does not want to sell them. The earl says the paintings belong to him according to terms of a lease and the trustees maintain that the paintings are not within the terms of the lease. The dispute has been presented to the High Court in London, and the judge will need to decide whether chattels, including the paintings, were vested in the trustee or part of a lease that was granted to the earl.
