Update: Britney Spears’ Conservatorship
As I previously discussed, a court approved the request of Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, to be Britney’s conservator in 2008. Now, the court has approved Jamie’s request to allow Jason Trawick, Britney’s fiance, to be the conservator of her day-to-day finances. Trawick will not have complete discretion in how to manage the pop star’s finances. He is a co-conservator and will share the job with Britney’s father. Trawick does not have as much authority as Jamie and Jamie’s attorney, Andrew Wallett, who will retain control of Britney’s estate. This conservatorship is unique because of the relationship between Britney and Jason. Courts rarely approve a person who is engaged to the potential conservatee to be that person’s conservator.
