400 Year Old Diamond Up For Sale
Sotheby’s auction house has put “Beau Sancy,” a 400 year old diamond, up for sale. The diamond is one of the world’s oldest diamonds and weighs 34.98 carats. When the diamond was cut in the 16th century, the pear shape was a new cut for diamonds, helping make Beau Sancy extremely sought after. French King Henri IV purchased the diamond for his wife from its original owner. The diamond has been in four royal European families and is currently owned by the descendants of the last emperor of Germany. Beau Sancy is expected to fetch up to $4 million.
