Reese Witherspoon and her mother, Mary Witherspoon, petitioned a court to grant a conservatorship over her father, Dr. John Witherspoon. Her father, a 70 year old man, reportedly married another woman, Patricia Taylor. Mary Witherspoon alleged that Taylor married her estranged husband to take advantage of his wealth. She further claims that this is possible because her husband has dementia and does not even remember marrying Patricia Taylor. In addition, Mary also received a temporary restraining order against Taylor. However, the results of the conservatorship proceeding are unknown because the judge held a closed hearing against the wishes of the local newspaper.
