‘The Scream’ Sells For $120 million at Sotheby’s
Edvard Munch’s painting “The Scream” sold for $120 million this month at Sotheby’s. Works by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Joan Miro also sold during Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art auction, but Munch’s 1895 painting was the centerpiece of the auction. “The Scream” was estimated to sell for around $80 million, but two bidders drove the painting’s price up during a 15 minute bidding war. The high price has set a new record for the most expensive piece of art ever sold at auction.
