Tycoon Lucom’s Heiress Will Not Face RICO claims

TrustsAs I have previously discussed, Wilson Lucom passed away in 2006 at the age of 88. Now, a federal court has ruled that his widow, Hilda Piza Lucom, will not have to face RICO claims. The trustee and his attorney of Lucom’s chartiable foundation and his law firm, Lehman, brought claims against his widow allegedly that his former wife has tried to take control of Lucom’s estate through intimidation and bribery. This came after the Supreme Court of Panama invalidiated Lucom’s will, which was set to bequest all of his estate to help the children of Panama.

To counter the claims, his widow claimed that the statute of limitations barred the trustee’s claims. The court agreed with her and held that the statute of limitations began in 2006 when it was likely that his attorney and his law firm should have known that it was injured by the RICO activities. In defending the suit, the courts have critized Lehman for mismanaging the estate.
