Long Live the King of Hot Sauce
Paul McIlhenny, the CEO of Tabasco, died at the age of 68 this past Saturday. His family remembered him fondly as a “‘a true bon vivant’ whose passions included hunting, fishing, wine-tasting and game cooking.” Mr. McIlhenny was the four-generation member of his family to make their famous pepper sauces under the popular brand Tabasco. He is the six-generation member to live on Avery Island in Louisiana, where the company was founded in 1868. He joined the company in 1967. For the next 13-years, he oversaw the production of sauces and the expansion of advertising merchandise that bear the logo. He chose to spend most of his time in New Orleans.
