Missing Woman’s Body Found in Impound Lot Three Days After Her Car Was Sent There

3679-carolyn-ann-watkinsOn Monday, authorities found the dead body of a missing North Carolina woman in the front seat of her car three days after the car was towed to an impound lot.

Carolyn Ann Watkins was 62, and her family had not heard from her since last Thursday. Watkins’ car was found in a ditch on the side of the road near Smithfield.

A State Trooper arrived at the scene and had the vehicle sent to an impound lot.  In his incident report, he stated, “‘there was no driver at the scene of the collision.'”

The airbags had deployed in the car and Watkins’ family believes that she may have been hidden by those airbags, which might explain why the officer did not see her to report that she was at the scene of the collision.

This is now a multi-jurisdictional investigation, and authorities will release accurate information as they come across it.
