Nurse Involved in Botched Kidney Transplant Suing for Wrongful Termination

As I have previously discussed, a family recently sued theUniversity of Toledo Medical Center after a nurse inadvertently disposed of akidney during a transplant surgery.

The nurse who threw away the organ resigned within weeks,but another nurse was suspended and then terminated for allegedly violatingpolicies and procedures.  This nurse, 30-yearemployee Melanie Lemay, is now suing the hospital for wrongful termination,contending the polices and procedures were put in place six days after thebotched surgery.  Lemay says she wasfired for violating communication policies and failing to prevent the othernurse from removing the kidney from the operation room.  Lemay maintains she had no knowledge theorgan was being removed.
