Perfect Kidney Match Thrown Away
AsI have previously discussed,Sarah A. Fudacz, 24, was supposed to receive her younger brother’s kidney, which was considered a perfect match, during a 2012 transplant surgery. Unfortunately, after her brother’s kidney was removed, a nurse inadvertentlydisposed of it. As a result of the nurse’s actions, Sarah required additionalsurgeries and had to wait an additional three months for a replacementkidney. Despite the availability of the kidney, it is not a perfect matchlike her brother’s kidney, so there is a higher probability her body mightreject it.
Originally, the family filed a suit against the University of Toledo Medical Center, seeking damages for the loss of the perfect kidney and the suffering Sarah’sbrother underwent during the risky surgery. However, on Aug. 27th,the medical center asked that the lawsuit be dismissed.
