Frequent Flier Miles For Your Loved Ones
Frequent flier miles can be a valuable asset. Of the twelve airlines, five of them do not allow milesor points to be transferred after death. The airlines prohibiting post- mortem transfersare Delta, Southwest, Spirit, Hawaiian, and JetBlue. Corporate officialsfrom all of the airlines told USA Today whether the airline policy allowedtransfers, but many of the companies had difficulty explaining the process bywhich it would permit people to do so. In fact, some airlines do not even have publishedpolicies. There are variations in the policies some airlines allowbeneficiaries on a case-by-case basis, some charge a flat fee, and othersrequire that the transfer be made only to a spouse or beneficiary. People hopingto get their points transferred should take the necessary steps and check withthe airline for their specific policy.
