Hearing Set in Brewer Case

Leatrice3

As I have previously discussed, Leatrice Brewer admitted todrowning her three children in 2008 and then attempting suicide.  After being found not guilty because ofmental disease, she is now requesting a portion of her children’s $350,000estate.

Brewer’s attorneys claim she shouldn’t be subject to NewYork’s Son of Sam Law, which prevents criminals from profiting from theircrimes, because she was never convicted. Nassau County Surrogate’s Court Judge Edward McCarty has scheduled a November6 hearing on her request.

If Brewer succeeds, this case could establish a precedent inNew York; however, Brewer is unlikely to see any money because of a $1.2million lien against her for psychiatric services she has since received.
