Suspicious Stabbing Shadows Financial Dispute

A year after Aliza Sherman was stabbed to death, her daughter is suing her father for $2 million.  The lawsuit was filed in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court by Jennifer Sherman, who is the co-executor of her mother’s estate.  Jennifer is seeking to recover money that her father, Sanford Sherman, placed in a Merrill Lynch account in 2000.  She is accusing him of unjust enrichment and civil conspiracy. 

The suit alleges Aliza Sherman was “completely unaware of the existence of the Merrill Lynch account and/or any activity related thereto.” Sanford Sherman and other unidentified co-conspirators created a document that gave him power of attorney for his wife and forged her signature, allowing him to make withdrawals from the fund.  Aliza Sherman learned about this account during divorce proceedings, which was to go to trial in March of 2013.  Two days before trial, Aliza Sherman was stabbed 11 times by a masked assailant near her attorneys’ offices.  No suspect has been identified.
