Landlord Refuses to Pay Debt to Late Tenant
Before the death of Walter Blomeyer of New York, he had an agreement with the property management company that owned the building where he lived in a tiny studio apartment. Blomeyer was promised $525,000 for moving out of his apartment. The management company paid him $300,00, allowed him to live in another building rent free, and still owed him $225,000.
Now, Blomeyer’s estate has brought suit to collect on the $250,000 debt owed by the management company, but the company is defending their non-payment based on the agreement not including a term that would result in the estate receiving any remaining amount owed.
