Tenant’s Estate Suing Landlord

Upper west sideFor decades, Walter Blomeyer lived in a tiny studio in Upper West Side Manhattan owned by Icon Realty Management.  When Icon planned to convert the building into luxury housing, they offered to pay Blomeyer $525,00 if he vacated.  Blomeyer accepted the deal, and was paid the initial $300,000 a year before issuing the remaining amount.  Unfortunately, Blomeyer died in February of a heart attack and now, Icon refuses to pay the rest of the amount.

Blomeyer’s estate is now suing Icon for $225,000 he was entitled.  Lawyer Mitch Kossoff responded to the claim saying, “The agreement said nothing about his estate benefitting.  His estate is entitled to nothing.”
