Roger Brown was a regular at the Vivian Arms pub in Swansea, where he developed a close friendship with seven other men. When Roger passed away from prostate cancer at the age of 67, he left a £3,500 bequest to be divided among his seven friends. One of the friends said, “It was a complete surprise when Roger’s son, Sam, rang a few days after the funeral to inform me he left £3,500 between the seven of us. The proviso was that we all go to a European city for a weekend to spend his bequest.” The group of friends, who had all known Roger for forty years, just returned from Berlin, where they toasted Roger’s memory. “We spent most of [the bequest] on beer,” said Rees.
