CLE On Estate Planning For Gun Owning Clients
The American Bar Association is presenting a CLE entitled, NFA Gun Trusts: Protecting Your Client’s Firearms for the Future, Thursday June 25, 2015, 1:00-2:30pm Eastern, online. Here is why you should attend:
This CLE program will be a comprehensive discussion of National Firearms Act (NFA) trusts/gun trusts and when these trusts are most useful. The presentation will provide information regarding any new and pending regulations that may affect these trusts and will include drafting tips for essential provisions.
Over the last few years gun trusts have come to prominence in estate planning. The National Firearms Act was passed in 1934, with amendments in 1968 and 1986. The passage was in response to growing crime and “gangster” preference to specific firearms. The NFA has strict requirements and penalties on Title 2 firearms.
In addition to the aforementioned items of discussion, the program will also include material on what the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) looks for when reviewing these trusts, and what provisions should be included regardless of ATF or state law requirements.
