Appeal In Tom Benson’s Mental Competency Case Will Be Argued Behind Closed Doors
I have previously discussed the ongoing legal dispute over the mental competency of New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson. Officials have recently announced that an appeal of a New Orleans judge’s ruling on the Tom Benson competency case will be heard behind closed doors. Attorneys for both sides are expected to argue their appeal before the Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeal. New Orleans Civil District Court Judge Kern Reese had originally ruled in Tom Benson’s favor after holding a trial on the matter. There will likely be more developments as this case proceeds through the appeals process. These type of mental competency cases will likely become more common in the future as the elderly population continues to grow. It is a good idea to plan ahead for these type of situations by meeting with an experienced estate planning professional.
