The Consequences of Repealing the Affordable Care Act
According to a new 30-year study on the impact of insurance coverage on death rates, approximately 43,000 Americans are at risk of dying if the Affordable Care Act is repealed. As it stands, the outline of Trump’s policy agenda promises to eliminate minimum standards for insurance coverage—the standards that currently prevent insurance providers from denying coverage to Americans with pre-existing medical conditions. Although Trump promised to protect Medicare and Medicaid, it seems they too might suffer in his leadership if the ACA is replaced. Ultimately, such uncertainty has many Americans on their toes wondering just how Trump’s “repeal and replace” plan will affect their insurance coverage.
