At Nursing Homes, Cuts to Medicaid Would Hit Even Upper Middle Class
Alice Jacobs, 90, once owned a factory and a number of horses. She helped raised four children and has buried two husbands. Now, suffering from a plethora of medical maladies, none of her four children have taken her in or provided her with enough aid to get out of nursing care. Rather, they have apparently abandoned Jacobs to the system and left her reliant on a failing Medicaid program. With Republicans in Congress looking to repeal a number of aspects of Medicaid coverage, Jacobs is worried that her taxpayer-funded care will not last. A number of Americans, finding themselves in similar situations, are growing increasingly concerned with possible cuts to Medicaid.
