Election Update: Maine Same-Sex Marriage Ballot

Marriage The Associated Press reports that early returns from today’s voting in Maine are too close to predict whether same-sex marriage will be allowed in the state.   Approximately one-third of the reporting precincts report that the vote is split 50/50.

As recently discussed on this blog, Maine enacted a law allowing same-sex marriage.  Opponents of the law were able to gather the signatures necessary for a referendum vote, allowing voters to determine whether the state will allow same-sex marriage.
