Governor Postpones Inmate Execution To Consider Organ Donation Request

As I have previously discussed, a 40-year-old man on death row requested to donate his organs to his mother and sister. The man is convicted of raping and murdering a three-year-old little girl. He was hoping to give his sister his heart and his mother who is battling kidney disease a new kidney, but his request was denied by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Now, the governor has postponed the execution to consider the request. Ronald Philips was originally supposed to be put to death by lethal injection this past Thursday. Over 120, 000 people are on a transplant list says a representative from the Lifeline of Ohio organ donor program. China Dieter, an advocate opposed the death penalty, stated ” If the whole idea is to save a life, there is one life to be saved simply by not executing the person at all. “
